Graduate Diploma in Health Studies

Standard Plan

This program, which can be completed entirely by distance, aims to equip students with the insights, skills and practice models needed to respond to the challenges of complex health issues in changing social and policy contexts.

The Graduate Diploma of Health Studies encourages students to apply knowledge from different disciplines, and to take a co-operative and multi-sectoral approach to health and community care. Students can gain a formal qualification and enhanced skills and knowledge in areas such as:

  •  Health promotion and disease prevention
  •  Addressing the needs of disadvantaged groups
  •  Collaborative health care
  •  Evaluation in health and health services
  •  Delivering health care in communities
  •  Substance use and misuse

This degree requires the completion of eight courses (a total of sixteen units), which is usually done over two years (part-time) or one year (full-time). Students choose at least two courses from the School of Population Health’s core foundation courses. They choose the remainder of their courses from the School of Population Health course list and may also select up to two courses from a wide range of electives outside the School (with approval from the Program Co-ordinator).

Students who complete the Graduate Diploma successfully can apply to enter the Masters level, with full credit for the courses completed.
