Health Studies

The Health Studies Program is for people working – or seeking to work – in a wide range of health and related community settings. It can be completed entirely by distance from anywhere in Australia or overseas.

This program is designed for those who want to make a difference to the health and wellbeing of individuals and groups in communities through innovative and evidence-based practice. Students can gain a formal qualification and enhanced skills and knowledge in areas such as:

  •  Health promotion and disease prevention
  •  Addressing the needs of disadvantaged groups
  •  Collaborative health care
  •  Evaluation in health and health services
  •  Delivering health care in communities
  •  Substance use and misuse

The program’s focus is on enhancing practice – using what you learn to improve what you do.



Courses integrate theory and practice, bringing together contemporary thinking, research, debates, strategies and policies. Students gain relevant knowledge that can be applied in their day-to-day work and develop and strengthen skills for reflective and evidence-based practice.

Careers
The Health Studies program gives graduates a strong foundation to work across a wide range of health and human services settings in government, non-government and private sectors.

Who should enrol?
Health Studies is for those already working as part of the health system as well as for those working in other human services settings, but who want a better understanding of how the health sector operates and how they might interact with it more effectively.

This program is designed to be flexible – in the way it is delivered and in the courses studied – so as to meet the needs of busy professionals. It recognises that students need to balance study with other professional and personal commitments. Students can select from a wide array of courses to meet their individual learning and professional development needs. The program offers accessible learning in distance mode making it possible for students to complete their studies from anywhere in Australia or overseas.
