Health Systems and Economics

The Health Systems and Economics Group brings together a diverse group of academics with a common goal – to improve the quality, organisation and effectiveness of health systems and services. Spanning a range of disciplines, including health policy, sociology, psychology, social epidemiology and economics,  and key areas of interest and expertise, such as evaluation methods, social determinants, Indigenous health, policy analysis, ethics and health financing, the Group is actively engaged in research focused on informing and influencing health policy and practice.

Our staff are involved in teaching programs at both postgraduate and undergraduate levels through the Master of Public Health, Health Studies, Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), and Bachelor of Health Sciences Programs.


Chronic Disease Evaluation Group
Chronic illness – its prevention and management from systems and operational perspectives – is a key research focus.  In consultation with a multi-stakeholder working group, our Chronic Disease Evaluation Group has developed the framework to evaluate the performance of the Queensland Strategy for Chronic Disease.

 

Queensland Evaluation Group
The Queensland Evaluation Group (QEG) evaluates submissions for new drugs to be listed on the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme.

 

Indigenous Health Unit
The Indigenous Health Unit makes a major contribution to education and research addressing contemporary issues in this key area of population health.
