Centre for Longitudinal and Life Course Research
CLLR conducts research on a broad range of health issues across the human lifespan.
The Australian Longitudinal Study on Women's Health
This population-based study is examining the health and wellbeing of more than 40,000 Australian women.
The Australian Longitudinal Study on Women's Health (ALSWH), is a longitudinal population-based study that examines the health and wellbeing of more than 40,000 Australian women. Directed by Professor Annette Dobson, the Study is a collaboration with the University of Newcastle and is funded by the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing.
Also known as Women's Health Australia, the project explores factors that influence health among women who are broadly representative of the entire Australian population. The Study goes beyond a narrow perspective that equates women's health with reproductive and sexual health, and takes a comprehensive view of all aspects of health throughout women's lifespan. The sample comprises three cohorts of women – the 1973-1978 cohort; the 1946-1951 cohort; and the 1921-1926 cohort -- who were first sampled in 1996. Each cohort is surveyed once every three years. Now in its fourteenth year, the Study continues to provide valuable data about the health of women as they age.
Collaborations are welcomed. Please visit the Study website at www.alswh.org.au for further information, including lists of publications, substudies, collaborative projects, survey questionnaires and tabulations of frequencies for data items. Students are encouraged to contact ALSWH staff and investigators to discuss project ideas for any of the research directions of the Study. Email: sph-wha@sph.uq.edu.au for more information.
The Centre for Research Excellence in Women’s Health in the 21st Century (CREWH21)
CREWH21 is investigating how health system changes impact women.
CREWH21 examines how changes in the health system impact on women’s health and how changes in women’s lives impact on their health and health care needs. The four priority health issues of interest are: reproductive health, mental health, cardiovascular conditions, and musculoskeletal problems.
The program’s world-leading research platform incorporates longitudinal data from the Australian Longitudinal Study on Women’s Health and record-linkage to administrative data bases on health services.
CREWH21 is funded by the NHMRC and will run until 2015. Please visit the Study website at www.uq.edu.au/crewh21 for further information.
This longitudinal project involves an internet survey of young women from urban and rural areas of NSW, with the aim of providing empirical evidence to support policy and practices to assist women to manage contraception as they wish and to plan more effective and appropriate services. CUPID was established in 2009 and is funded through an ARC linkage grant. The project is conducted in collaboration with industry partners Family Planning NSW and Bayer Healthcare.
Please visit the Study website at www.uqccr.uq.edu.au/cupid for further information.
InterLACE
Researching women's health across six nations.
InterLACE provides a unique opportunity to conduct world-leading research in collaboration with key national and international investigators on women’s health studies from six nations.
We will undertake cross-cohort research by combining data at the individual level from more than 150,000 participants from ten existing longitudinal studies to investigate the role of reproductive health across life on subsequent CVD events and Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM). While this poses cross-cohort and cross-cultural research challenges, InterLACE has the capability to address research questions and generate robust evidence that is not possible from any single cohort study.
