Professor Annette Dobson has been awarded an Australia Day honour as a Member of the Order of Australia for her years of service as a researcher and academic.
As a national and international expert on public health and biostatistics, Annette was recognised for her work on the collection and analysis of data relating to cardiovascular disease and women’s and veterans’ health.
Annette is the Director of the Lifespan Health Unit at the School of Population Health, and is the lead investigator on the Australian Longitudinal Study on Women's Health (ALSWH) and Men, Women and Ageing Study. The ALSWH is a key longitudinal, population-based study examining three cohorts of over 40,000 women over a 20 year period. The Men, Women and Ageing Study compares data from the ALSWH and the Perth-based Health in Men Study.
She also conducts research on statistical modelling and works on other aspects of the application of statistics to issues in population health.
Aside from a strong research agenda, Annette is also the Director of Teaching and Learning at SPH and co-ordinator of the Masters program in Biostatistics.
Annette’s commitment to excellence in research and training was also commended in 2003, when she was awarded the Sidney Sax Public Health Medal by the Public Health Association of Australia. She was recognised for use of evidence to promote public-health solutions to problems of equity of access in health care.
