Biography:
Lisa is a public health sociologist with research interests in qualitative research, participatory research methods with marginalised and vulnerable populations, gender, sexual health, young people and social determinants of health. Lisa has worked as a lecturer in the Department of Public Health and General Practice, University of Otago, Christchurch, New Zealand (2003-2007) where she was involved in a number of research projects that explored young people's health related practices. She is a principal investigator on the Health Research Council of New Zealand and Ministry of Justice funded project (2006-2009), 'The Impact of the Prostitution Reform Act on the Health and Safety Practices of Sex Workers'. This important national study has informed the 2008 review and evaluation of the Prostitution Reform Act, the decriminialisation of sex work in New Zealand. Lisa continues her interest in the application of social science to public health in her teaching and research at UQ. Lisa is course coordinator for PUBH7620, Social Perspectives in Population Health and teaches into PUBH7003 Qualitative Research Methods in Health. She is currently involved in research projects including, investigating male circumcision for HIV prevention among at-risk men and women in PNG, and factors affecting preference and acceptability of long-lasting insecticidal bed nets in the Solomon Islands.Qualifications:
