Biography:
Lennert is a public health physician by training. He works as Research Fellow at the SPH Centre for Burden of Disease and Cost-Effectiveness since April 2007 and is employed on an NHMRC Capacity Building grant focusing on health economic evaluation. Lennert specialises in the mathematical modelling of the effects of preventive interventions. Current areas of work include the cost-effectiveness of osteoporosis prevention, school fruit programmes and urban infrastructural improvements that aim to stimulate physical activity, and the link between food advertising and childhood obesity. Lennert was born on 8 January 1971 in Amsterdam. He finished his medical studies at the Free University Amsterdam in 1999. During his studies he was active in the International Federation of Medical Students' Associations, which he presided in 1995-96. After a brief clinical intermezzo he started his public health career in the medical service for asylum-seekers. From 2002 to March 2007 he worked at the department of Public Health of the Erasmus Medical Center Rotterdam, where he successfully defended his PhD-thesis on quantitative methods for health impact assessment in September 2007.Qualifications:
